The Kenya Culture Course involves a systematic exposure to the way Kenyans live their lives within their physical, economic, and socio-historical environments. You will be given insight into the four aspects of Kenyan Culture:
- The descriptive: language, ethnicity, geographical distribution, historical synopsis;
- The prescriptive: customs, beliefs, socio-political organization;
- The productive: material culture, economy, technology;
- The expressive/creative: Visual/decorative arts, music, theatre, dance, oratory, and literature.
Methods of Instruction include lectures, discussions, interactions with specialists and participation in selected cultural activities. The course also includes visits to museums and areas of local cultural interest conducted by lecturers and knowledgeable local hosts.
