KIBWEZI LEVEL 3 HOSPITAL

Kibwezi sub-county hospital is a government health hospital located next to the ACK church Kibwezi. The hospital is located in a community setup that serves casual laborers from the sisal farm managed by Rea Vipingo ltd. 

It offers the following services

  • Antiviral therapy
  • Curating outpatient services
  • Family planning
  • Growth monitoring & promotion
  • Hiv/Aids & testing
  • Immunization
  • Management of childhood illness
  • Prevention of mother to child HIV
  • Radiology services g. x-rays, ultra
  • Scan & MRI
  • Tuberculosis diagnosis
  • Blab & T.B treatment 

A volunteer should have a medical background or social worker to support in any of this department.

Makongeni Health Center (Community Hospital)

Makongeni health Centre is a community hospital which is located at the community area where majority of the population are low income earners and slum dwellers. It is funded by the government to help reach the needs of local community.  Kefah (Director of CTD) with the hospital’s manageress & CTD trained social workers

REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS 

  • Medical training/social work
  • Above 18 years
  • Good Conduct [UK disclosure or PVG]

Community Medical Outreach 

In the outreach work, the volunteers are involved in medical camps where the community is educated on hygiene, checked on blood pressure, sugar level, eye checkup, dental checkup, nutrition education, Family Planning, STD and HIV testing and Counselling.

Nursing,Community Health & Medical

Youths Organization co-operates and partners with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation to provide Nursing & Medical placements within local hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, and health care centers. For example, you may volunteer with Family Health Care or Nakuru Municipal Health Centre. 
Volunteers who wish to take part in this programme must be licensed medical practitioners such as registered nurses, doctors, physicians assistants and LPNs (licensed nurse practitioners) etc. You will need to provide suitable documentation as proof of your qualification upon arrival. Volunteers must also be prepared to display a fair amount of initiative in their day to day activities given that volunteers may sometimes have more formal and up-to-date training than local staff. 
As the volunteer works with local health care practitioners, they will learn about Kenyan health care issues including medical care treatments that are specific to the Kenyan population.

Your duties will vary but may include: 

  • Work with health professionals and community health care workers to fight diseases such as TB, HIV/AIDS, and cancer;
  • Nursing& patient care;
  • Training and mentoring local health care workers on medical issues; and
  • Educating patients on healthy lifestyles and life practices.
