REFUGEE WORK

Centre for Training and Development has been working with refugees in various places like Dadaab refugee camp, Kampala - Uganda, South Sudan, Nairobi urban refugees on trauma Counselling, life skills for children and youth, English language for French-speaking refugees and integrating refugees with the local communities through job placements and church activities.

Kitengela hosts refugees from different African countries namely: - Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan. The refugees face a number of challenges both psychological, emotional, physical and language barrier that is a hindrance to relate and cope with the Kenyans.

The International volunteers shall teach the English language, learn and offer trauma counseling sessions, teach on life skills.

ORPHANAGE AND CHURCH

The church and orphanage is Pentecostal church called Christian family church located in kitengela under the leadership of pastor Momanyi. It serves the flower farm casual labourers who are lowly paid and the maasai community where children who have been abused through early marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM) and neglected by families are offered counselling, education and safe home. The church develops children in primary school level of education, vocational training for children who do not proceed to secondary level like tailoring and dress making, hair dressing and beauty, metal welding and sheep rearing.

The church has a routine of eating together on Sunday for all Christians and the children to show and provide parental care for the children.

The volunteers are involved in teaching, sports, cleaning, mentorship and mission activities.

Child Rights & Protection

Youths Organization partners with Thika Juvenile Children and Rehabilitation Centre. This center is home to orphans, street children and other vulnerable children with behavioral issues. The goal of this program is to protect child rights specifically through the rehabilitation of street children and other vulnerable children with behavioral issues.

Your duties will vary but may include:

  1. counseling abused children and street children;
  2. assisting with general teaching and life skills training;
  3. rehabilitating street children;
  4. cooking and cleaning; and
  5. encouraging positive behavioral changes.

This programme is similar to the orphanage work, however, the Centre has 2 branches (one for orphans and the other for street children and other vulnerable children with behavioral issues).
